Kollmorgen’s new KBM Series frameless brushless motors present system designers and maintenance personnel with a new and high-accuracy way to optimize their available space and power budget. The KBM motors are available in 14 sizes for high or low voltage applications, and range from 60mm to 825mm in diameter; motors for both 240 and 480VAC applications are available.
The motors are also available with a latching Hall effect sensor that are pre-aligned and factory installed to allow for proper triggering. Additional motor windings are available to optimize performance at lower voltages, such as 12 or 24 VDC. Each frame size is available in different stack lengths, and all feature fully encapsulated stator windings; internal windings are rated for continuous duty up to 155 degrees Celsius. Rare-earth neodymium iron boron magnets permit the motors to provide a high continuous torque rating – from 1.45Nm (1.07ft-lb) to 3445Nm (2540 ft-lb) – and a peak torque from 4.91Nm (3.63 ft-lb) to 12,812Nm (9450 ft-lb). Maximum power ranges from 550W (for 1.22hp) up to 18.5 kW (for 24.8hp) within the smallest motor package; this means fewer amps are drawn across the operating range for virtually any horsepower rating when compared to a standard AC induction motor.
KBM motor rotational speeds at rated power is from 105rpm to 18,600rpm.
